That’s plausible. I haven’t confirmed it. I know the first discussion of the empirical evidence is in Aristotle (Plato’s pupil).

However, the evidence we have from Thales suggests the idea long predates Plato, as did its empirical basis; but we don’t have a surviving text confirming that.

Any Chinese discovery of the fact will also have been later because they don’t come into serious science until the Han dynasty, which is coterminous with the Roman Empire, not classical Athens.

I am unaware of any pertinent evidence from Persia or India, but those aren’t my areas.

None of these overlap that interest, except in indirect ways. For example, Oleson doesn’t pertain at all, but the other two cover the role of cosmology and theories of knowledge that overlap or contrast with religious cosmology and theories of knowledge.

But I am running a series on my recommendations in the origins of Christianity that you may be more interested in. You can skim through my recommendations category tag to find them.

Which of these would you recommend if one is interested in Biblical studies/ historical Jesus studies- so as to have an appreciation of the contemporary philosophy of the times? Thank you
