I’ve been too busy to blog about all the things I wanted to this month. From the Black Lives Matter protest to the Ophelia Benson departure to a weird John Loftus flameout currently going on. So here I’m quickly trying to catch up. First on deck: the BLM Seattle protest…

To all the white people in a huff over the Seattle BLM protest at a rally Bernie Sanders was to speak at: no, it didn’t hurt his campaign at all, nor would it ever have; yes, maybe the optics could have been better; yes, Sanders should pay attention; yes, so far, he has, and is doing better on the issue than any other candidate running. He already started paying attention after a significant earlier protest, in response to which he had already hired BLM activist Symone Sanders (no relation) to help him get with the program and address the issue as he ought, before the Seattle action, though this was unknown, having already been slated to be announced the day after. Meanwhile, there is a good roundup of articles by Dana Hunter you should read if you still think the Seattle protest was “out of line” or something. We need to care more about this.

In the end, I concur with Symone Sanders, speaking on behalf of the Bernie Sanders campaign:

Do I think everyone in the movement agrees with the way the protesters commanded the stage today? No. Am I going to condemn the protesters for standing up and expressing themselves? No. Because their voices matter.
