My website’s category dropdown menu includes many social justice issues like racism, sexism, ableism, classism, privilege, feminism and men’s issues, gender and transgenderism, gay pride, culture, environment, polyamory, etc. And to understand why, the National Association of Social Workers has the best introductory explanation of what social justice is and why it’s important that I’ve yet found (see their Statement on Social Justice).

Following is a “starter kit” for getting acquainted with what social justice is and why it matters, one that isn’t poisoned with lies and mythologies but gives you the straight dope—evidence-based reasoning, critical thinking, full contact with reality. From each example here listed, you can abstract from it general principles for how to check any other subject, or further dive into any one of these subjects, finding what on either side (pro or con) is false or ill conceived, and thus zeroing in on the Aristotelian mean of what is true, finding where reality lands after you’ve trimmed away either side’s errors, exaggerations, and hyperbole.

This isn’t a complete list of all my articles here on any social justice issue. It’s just the best entry points into each, and together they’re a good 101 education in what sound and critical social justice thinking looks like.
